Design and Fabrication
The chassis of the robot was designed with an eye toward simple manufacturing and easy assembly. We also focused on being able to quickly disassemble the robot in order to gain access to areas that needed troubleshooting.
The robot was designed in SolidWorks and cut out of Duron on the PRL lasercutters. Tabs and slots were included in the design to facilitate easy assembly. Circuit boards and other components were attached with zipties, tape and/or hot glue. In addition to the drivetrain, casters were attached to both the front and rear of the robot in order to prevent the robot from pitching. Please see the Multimedia section for additional images of the finished robot.
